PROFESSIONAL TECHNOLOGY FOR LONG-LASTING HAIR REMOVAL

Adapted from the same technology use by professional salons, BaByliss Paris brings safe, painless & permanent^ Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) epilation hair removal to the comfort of your own home. Clinically & dermatologically tested for proven effectiveness with a 90% reduction in hair.

  • Simple & easy to use
  • Gentle & safe treatment
  • Painless hair removal
  • Cost effective – no replacement bulbs needed
  • Great for thick or dense hair

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal is based on the theory of selective photothermolysis which uses optical energy to stop the growth of the hair.

Homelight Connected applies gentle flashes of light onto the skin’s surface to target the hair follicle’s melanin & root. These flashes of light are then transformed into heat while the surrounding skin stays cool, causing hair to go into a resting phase, ceasing growth. As a result, hair re-growth is weakened & hair sheds naturally.

WHAT IMPACT DOES IPL HAVE ON THE HAIR GROWTH CYCLE?

Every hair on our body has three growth phases:

These three phases play an important role when using IPL. The time the hair takes to go through its three phases varies from one person to the next & from one part of the body to the next (hormonal factors, skin tone & hair colour can affect results).

As a rule, an average cycle can be anywhere between 12 & 24 months. Only hairs that are in the Anagen (growth phase) will respond to treatment. IPL has no effect on hairs in the Catagen (transition phase) & Telogen (resting phase).

^Individual results may vary.

WHO IS HOMELIGHT CONNECTED SUITABLE FOR?

Homelight Connected offers 5 levels of light intensity to suit different skin tones (Phototypes I to V°, according to the Fitzpatrick scale) & varying levels of sensitivity.

The more melanin the hair contains (in other words, the darker the hair is), the more light & the more effective IPL treatment will be. IPL treatment is not effective on white, grey or light blonde hair, which contains little melanin. Melanin is also found in large quantities of dark skin, hence IPL treatment is not recommended for very dark skin.

°IMPORTANT: Please read the instruction manual before using. This product is not suitable for use on very dark skin or by persons with certain medical conditions.

HOW OFTEN & HOW LONG FOR EACH TREATMENT?

Regular sessions staged over several months are needed to target all hairs. 8 treatments can achieve a reduction in hair of up to 90%*.

  • The first 4 sessions should be 2 weeks apart
  • To maintain the best results, repeat treatment every 4 to 8 weeks, until desired results are achieved
  • An average full treatment program: 11 sessions in 12 months (depending on thickness of the hair to be treated). Some people achieve results more or less quickly than the average number of sessions recommended.

PREPARATION OF THE SKIN

  • Shave the area to be treated 24 hours before you intend to use the appliance.
  • Your skin should be shaved, clean, dry & free of powder and deodorant residue.
  • Do not apply any cream or body milk before using the appliance.
  • Do not epilate (whether using an electric epilator or wax) before using the Homelight 100. The epilation (removal of hair at the root) will make the pulsed light treatment ineffective.
  • Before using the product, make sure that the skin is dry, perfectly clean and free from grease or cream.

HOW TO USE DUOFLEX 770

  • Epilation is easier and more comfortable when the hair is at the optimum length of 2mm to 5mm. If hair is longer than 1cm, either trim with scissors before use or shave first and then epilate the shorter re-growing hairs after 1 or 2 weeks.
  • When epilating for the first time it is advisable to epilate in the evening, so that any possible redness can disappear overnight. To relax the skin, apply a cooling moisturizer after epilation.
  • Fine hair which re-grows might not grow up to the skin surface. Regular exfoliation can help prevent in-grown hairs.
  • Always work with both hands: carefully stretch the skin and hold the skin taut while moving the appliance with the other. Holding the skin taut will help to avoid pinching.
  • Move the epilator against the direction of hair growth. Do not use circular movements.
  • Hair can grow in different directions, so it may be helpful to guide the appliance in different directions to achieve optimum results.
  • Hold the appliance at a 90 degree angle to the surface of the skin of where hair is to be removed.
  • Do not apply pressure. If too much pressure is applied the appliance may slow down.
  • Always keep both massage rollers in contact with the skin to help soothe the skin while epilating.

PREPARATION OF THE SKIN

  • Before using the product, make sure that the skin is dry, perfectly clean and free from grease or cream.
  • Exfoliating the skin once or twice a week helps to maintain healthy and fresh skin, but it also helps to:
  • Prevent hairs from growing under the skin, resulting in in-grown hairs
  • Remove dead skin cells and refine the texture of your skin, resulting in a closer shave
  • Prepare your skin to help it absorb skin care products.
  • We recommend exfoliating ideally the day before, as well as just before epilating. This will help straighten the hair and make it easier to remove. Avoid exfoliating just after epilating.
  • Having a warm shower or bath before and during use will also help to soften the hair.

  3. Are the BaByliss Homelight IPL devices truly effective?
  4. Yes. Clinical trials have proven that the BaByliss Homelight IPL devices achieve long-lasting results with complete safety.

  5. On which parts of the body can I use the BaByliss Homelight IPL devices?
  6. The BaByliss Homelight IPL devices have been designed for removal of body hair. The area’s most commonly treated are the legs, underarms, arms, and the pubic area.

  7. Are the BaByliss Homelight IPL devices safe?
  8. Your safety was our first priority when we designed the Homelight IPL devices. Very strict standards were followed when testing and approving it for use at home and skin tolerance was tested under dermatological control. But like any electronic appliance that comes in contact with the skin, the user must follow the instructions and scrupulously follow the safety precautions.

  9. Are treatments painful?
  10. When used properly, most Homelight users report a slight heat sensation when the unit pulses. Users with darker and thicker hair sense a little more discomfort. But these sensations ease and disappear at the end of the session. For your comfort and safety, the Homelight IPL devices have 5 power levels depending on your skin type.

  11. At what frequency should I use the Homelight IPL?
  12. The first 4 sessions with the Homelight should be 2 weeks apart. Next sessions should be 4 weeks apart until you achieve the desired results.

  13. Is the Homelight effective on white, grey or blonde hair?
  14. IPL hair removal is most effective on dark hair or on those containing more melanin. Melanin, the pigment that gives colour to skin and hair, absorbs optical energy. Black and dark brown hair responds best to the treatment. Brown and light brown hair also responds, but these will need a few more sessions. Red hair may also respond partially to the treatment. Generally, white, grey or blonde hair does not respond to the treatment, but some users have noticed results after several depilation sessions.

  15. Can I use the BaByliss Homelight IPL devices on brown or black skin?
  16. Do not use the appliance on naturally dark skin! The Homelight IPL devices eliminate hair by targeting the hair pigment. Pigments are also found in varying quantities in the surrounding dermal tissues. The quantity of pigments in a person’s dermis, visible through the colour of the skin, defines the level of risk to which he or she is exposed by using the Homelight epilator. Treating dark skin with the Homelight may involve risks like burns, blisters and changes in skin colour (hyper or hypopigmentation). Please consult the table showing the different phototypes and the use recommended according to these types in the section ‘Use’ in the Instruction Booklet.

  17. When will I see the first results?
  18. Like all other photo-epilation methods, the results are not immediate; you may even have the impression that nothing is happening. The hair will sometimes appear to continue growing after a session, but after two weeks, most of this hair will simply fall out. This is why you will need to have a several sessions before achieving the expected result. The first noticeable results will appear after 4 sessions.

  19. Can men use the BaByliss Homelight IPL devices?
  20. The Homelight IPL devices can be used by men. However, men’s hair, especially chest hair, will require more sessions to achieve the desired results.

  21. Why does hair grow back in the area that I treated last week?
  22. It is quite common for hair to appear to continue to grow for one to two weeks after a depilation session. This process is known as ‘ejection’. After two weeks, you will nonetheless notice that this hair falls out or comes away from its follicle. That said, we recommend you do not pull the hair from the follicle – let it fall out naturally. Moreover, some hair will not be affected by the Homelight either because of poor application or because the hair was in its dormant phase. This hair will be treated in the following sessions, hence the need for several sessions to achieve the expected results.

  23. I’ve heard that some hair grows back lighter and finer after IPL. Is this true?
  24. This phenomenon is well documented by beauticians and doctors who use pulsed light appliances for depilation treatments. It is possible that some hair grows back lighter and finer after a treatment session. Generally, this hair only represents a tiny part of the original hair growth, treatments should therefore be continued to achieve the desired result.

  25. Is long-term use of the Homelight dangerous for my skin?
  26. Over the last 15 years, the use of the pulsed light in aesthetic medicine has been well documented in professional journals. These journals and institutions have not reported any side effects or injuries with long-term use of pulsed light appliances.

  27. Can I use the Homelight IPL devices to eliminate chin or facial hair?
  28. Homelight Connected (model G940A) allows facial hair removal (cheeks, upper lip, and chin), but only if the sensitive area filter provided for this purpose is used. Please wear the protective glasses when treating the facial area. IPL devices may not be used for epilation of eyelashes, eyebrows or head hair.

  29. How long should I wait before using the Homelight if I am not protected from the sun’s rays?
  30. You should avoid exposure to the sun before and after treatment with the Homelight no matter which part of the body has been treated. You must use suitable protection, e.g., a covering garment or a sun cream (with a protection factor of 50+) which you should then use regularly for three weeks before and after treatment. Ideally, you should wait 4 weeks before using the Homelight if you have been exposed to the sun without protection. If you have the least doubt about exposure to the sun consult your doctor or contact BaByliss customer service.

  31. What should I do before I use the Homelight?
  32. Before each session, it is important that the area to be treated has not been exposed to the sun for at least four weeks. A sun screen with a high protection factor (protection factor of 50+) could be some help, as well as clothes that cover the area to be treated. Moreover, the area to be treated should be washed with soap and water beforehand and then shaved clean of hair.

  33. How do I take care of the treated area after using Homelight?
  34. The area treated with the Homelight may be cleaned and cared for with well-known skin care products. Specific precautions should be taken to avoid unprotected exposure to the sun. Sun screens with a higher protection factor (protection factor of 50+) and long clothing are good protection against the sun.

  35. Should I remove hair before, between and after treatments?
  36. No, do not remove hair before, during or after treatments. The hair will fall out on its own naturally and gradually. This stage may last up to two weeks. It is recommended to shave 24 hours prior to treatment.

  28. Homelight Compact (model G931A) allows facial hair removal (cheeks, upper lip, and chin), but only if the sensitive area filter provided for this purpose is used.

  3. On which parts of the body can I use the BaByliss Epilators?
  4. BaByliss Epilators can be used on the legs, underarms, arms, pubic area and the face.

  5. How do I epilate my legs?
  6. Hold the appliance at a 90 degree angle and carefully stretch the skin, holding the skin taut while moving the appliance with the other hand. Move the epilator against the direction of hair growth. Do not use circular movements. Slowly move the epilator, while pressing down lightly. Careful not to press the appliance down too hard against your skin; it might slow down the appliance and be less effective.

Epilate the legs from the lower leg in an upward direction. When epilating behind the knee, keep the leg stretched out straight. Apply a cooling moisturizer to legs after epilation.

  7. How do I epilate my underarms and bikini line?
  8. Please be aware that especially at the beginning, these areas can be sensitive to pain. With repeated use the pain sensation will diminish. For more comfort, ensure that the hair is at the optimum length of 2mm to 5mm.

Before epilating, thoroughly clean the area to remove residue (like deodorant), then carefully dab dry with a towel. Attach the Sensitive Area attachment before turning the appliance on. The sensitive area attachment has 14 tweezers so that you can remove hair more smoothly and with greater precision from sensitive areas such as the bikini line and underarms.

When epilating the underarm, keep your arm raised so that the skin is stretched and guide the appliance in different directions.

When epilating the bikini line, carefully stretch the skin, holding the skin taut while moving the appliance with the other hand. Move the appliance against the direction of hair growth.

As skin may be more sensitive following epilation, avoid using irritating substances such as deodorant with alcohol.

PROFESSIONAL TECHNOLOGY FOR LONG-LASTING HAIR REMOVAL

Adapted from the same technology use by professional salons, BaByliss For Men brings safe, painless & permanent^ Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) epilation hair removal to the comfort of your own home.

Homelight 100 applies gentle flashes of light onto the skin’s surface to target the hair follicle’s melanin & root.

*90% reduction in the amount of hair observed on average on legs after 8 sessions. Clinical study carried out in 2013 on 49 people with Phototypes I to V.

WHO IS HOMELIGHT 100 SUITABLE FOR?

Homelight 100 offers 5 levels of light intensity to suit different skin tones (Phototypes I to V°, according to the Fitzpatrick scale) & varying levels of sensitivity.

IPL treatment is not effective on white, grey or light blonde hair, which contains little melanin. Melanin is also found in large quantities of dark skin, hence IPL treatment is not recommended for very dark skin.

The more melanin the hair contains (in other words, the darker the hair is), the more light & the more effective IPL treatment will be.

BaByliss For Men Homelight 100 is intended for long-lasting hair removal on neck, arms, chest, back, legs & sensitive areas including the pubic area (it is not suitable for use on the scrotum and testes).

Generally, this hair only represents an tiny part of the original hair growth, treatments should therefore be continued to achieve the desired result.
